Back home: Skiing Thanksgiving away.

Black Mountain Ski Lodge
We came back from Thanksgiving and immediately headed up to Black Mountain of Maine so I could hike and the boys could hike up and then ski down. The mountain doesn't open until Christmas week, so climbing is it. Here's a sloppy video I took and a couple fo pictures. Both boys have the potential to become very good skiers this winter... it'll be fun to watch.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Waiting for Thanksgiving Dinner.

We arrived in Trenton on Wednesday and took a tour of the tourist town called Bar Harbor. Today we awoke early to help set up for a 2pm dinner with about 30 people. The boys did a great job helping set up and lugging wood. Thanksgiving is the busiest travel time of the year in America, but we were lucky in our drive up--he didn't hit much traffic.

For 10 years, I've come up to The Trevett's for Thanksgiving when Denny and Jen built this summer home and started the tradition of a family Thanksgiving dinner in Trenton. Tomorrow, we head back to Rumford. Sebino has a wrestling tournament on Saturday and perhaps Guido will ski in the yard or up at the ski area by hiking up the slopes since the lifts aren't open yet. A big storm is brewing for Monday; now we wait to see whether this holiday weekend will be extended for the boys.

Cleaning, hiking, view from the sports room, and Thanksgiving Plans in Trenton

Trenton summer home.

We had a wet, sloppy snowstorm yesterday and last night. Over the weekend, the boys cleaned the house, attended a birthday party, slept over at friends, walked in the woods with a friend who went hunting, and studied for mid-term examinations. This week, for Thanksgiving, we're off to Trenton, Maine, where Denny and Jen, my nephew and his wife, have a summer home on the ocean. They'll entertain 30 - 40 people. I'll attempt to include a few pictures of that celebration here.

Winter Days this Fall

View from the back deck of our home looking
into the Mahoosuc Mountains
Winter has arrived early this year. The temperatures have been more like January than early November. Hopefully, the snow will build a firm base for skiing and the temperatures will not be too severe. The key, however, is always to dress for the temperatures.

More Ski Videos

After about an hour's worth of practice,
here's the next set of videos.

Snow Day!

Looking out on the back deck

On Monday evening, snow began falling. Today, No School! The roads are icy and messy. The boys helped me shovel the walkways and back deck. They cleaned off the van and now are building a ski ramp. Bailey supervised the work and ended up wandering across the street to the neighbor's. Guido's project has been the new mailbox, and we stuck that thing into the ground today before the ground freezes. Just now from my second floor office I noticed the boys skiing on the lawn! Videos below of their first ski runs in America! (Sorry about Bailey's barking as he watched the boys. He wants to be out there, but NOT if goes across the road. )
